Would he be permitted to keep it despite it being a seemingly magic item?	Patho-Gen has made exceptions in the past for things like weapons or magical items during the TDM specifically. If the character absolutely needs that item to survive and there are no other workarounds... they may grant it. However, any other features the lantern possesses, if used for ill during this first month, will garner harsh penalty and surveillance. If the character can feasibly survive without the lantern, however, they won't be willing to give it over. They want to study it first, and learn its ins and outs! Magical items will usually be returned to characters upon acceptance, unless it's a game-breaking item or one that grants immense power.
