While Patho-Gen's magic can absolutely heal up injuries, you are more than free to let him suffer if you'd prefer. Perhaps they somewhat accelerate the process of healing, for example, and the fracture is only mended... a bit. Healing a grievous wound is no easy feat, and they may get a little lazy with some characters... And yes, they will offer a cane to those who seem to need it.
