Calling

From Karteria DWRP Wiki
Jump to navigationJump to search

The native magic of the people of Karteria. It has been both described as "uncommon"[1] and that most "only [have] a marginal personal talent for it[2]". The main application in it's pure form seems to be in training animals or instructing them to complete simple tasks[1]. However, it's also combined with science and used to facilitate a lot of the technology within and without the cities, including the barrier, the network and ServiTons[1].

Events

[edit | edit source]

October 2025

[edit | edit source]

During the October Event, Calling was used on Carnivora-, Aves-, Arthropoda-, Ruminantia-, and Reptilia-types within the Patho-Gen facilities to test the predator/prey dynamic. Two characters were given an appetite stimulant and placed in a room, but should one be taken down by the other, Calling was used in an attempt to restrain them. It was most effective on those who had been in Karteria for longer.[3]

November 2025

[edit | edit source]

Following this, in November, Calling was used by NPCs on PCs (especially Terra-, Golem-, Spectral-, and Carnivora-types) during the Salvation Parade, to force them to pick up and carry another Augmented[4].

Does a DND advantage against the charmed condition equate to a lowered susceptibility to Calling magics in Karteria, the mind-control from Patho-Gen, or a force-imprint to Patho-Gen?

If a character were to tinker with the clicker device that knocks Player Characters unconscious what would they discover? ("There is very clearly a small chip laced with magic within. It's of the sort used for ServiTons: it contains that patented flavor of Karterian Controlling magic that they so love, because nothing beats forcing the world around them to behave.")

What's the construction of the bridge? ("On the Karterian side, there is a long stretching portion of steel/concrete, supported both by dense, reinforced pillars and a bit of "don't worry about it" magic-science")

Mission to Phantasia and results of bringing the information to Patho-Gen/repairing the barrier:

  • "Phantasians pity the Augmented, who have been yanked from across time and space against their will. This is a broken, unsalvageable world. This, their ancestors have told them. All of this nonsense about Controlling magic..." (First response, third to last paragraph. See FAQ question confirming that Controlling magic = Calling)
  • "Lupêans did not control nor tame their environment via Controlling magic or industrialization: they grew with it and existed among it." (Second response, second to last paragraph.)
