Regaining the original animal might be somewhat complicated, given that living things don't arrive with characters... but gaining a 'new' companion through the treat system should be possible. They might even be fairly close to the original- falling right into the uncanny valley of similarity. (As a general note: service animals don't really exist in current Karteria (though people have pets, which they leave at home, or take for (leashed) walks), with that niche filled by robots. Animals wouldn't be allowed inside public buildings, as they're viewed as inherently 'dirty', no matter how well-trained.)
