Got it. Would there be any kind of work-around available to characters who can't access their powers without their familiar, or is this a situation where they would only have access to natural soul abilities? HMM... We want you to be able to have a good time playing your character. If having their native powers is desired, we think there could be some kind of workaround that could be toyed with... When a character is brought to Karteria, it's their soul that's nabbed. If the familiar has a soul of their own/wouldn't be a playable character on their own, obviously that wouldn't be suited to roaming the landscape, with Katalyth growing at breakneck speed! An unprotected, singular soul would be vulnerable to arcane radiation just like anyone else!

For your specific circumstance, a bit of an odd, and even disturbing, situation could occur. When snagging your character, the familiar may be snagged alongside them. In such a situation, especially if it's an animal, Patho-Gen might decide to "kindly" imbue that familiar into an amulet of sorts—"For Protection," they say. (They won't be very moved by the notion that they trapped a living creature into jewelry, and won't be moved if there are protests lodged.) The essence of the familiar could be within this amulet, requiring the character to have it on their person to access their powers. It's just a situation we thought up of, but if you have another idea we are open to it! We want you to be able to have a good time.
