HI MODS!!! Quick question now that I'm finally working on my app and how to nerf my character's abilities. So, Takasugi here is a "Servant", which is basically a magical familiar made represent of a figure's reputation or history. They all have a special ability called a Noble Phantasm, which is kind of their Final Fantasy Limit Break that uses a lot of resources, energy, etc. Takasugi's lets him strengthen his allies by endowing them with the militaristic capabilities of the era he's been summoned into, which, would be this one per Patho-Gen's insistence. AT MOST that means he's able to temporarily produce a relatively small (nerfed) army with the most developed equipment available, at the risk of his own stamina and life force. AT WORST, it lets him analyze the details of various tech, and possibly give his allies' skills a boost per the current era's military prowess. He isn't able to chain this at its full power due to the strain it puts on him, and he can't fabricate anything beyond the capabilities of this world's tech. If everyone here threw stones out of a sling, he would summon a couple of guys who could literally just do... that. SO. I read the section re: the military police and how their presence around the city has significantly reduced. What I'm curious about, is, the extent of the military technology in Karteria. Do they use antique firearms with magical bullets? Do they use gunpowder to fire projectiles, or is it magic? Steam propulsion, maybe? I don't want to step on toes and accidentally surpass the limits of the setting's current firepower while I try to figure out how to keep this ability and have it still be fun. What a cool power... hopefully we can describe things enough to give a sense of how it might work here. Karterian weaponry consists largely of early rifles- somewhat inaccurate, a bit fantastical in style, form prioritized over function (art deco embellishments are routine). Almost ceremonial. Bullets are round, propelled by gunpowder. They are not usually magical in nature, but there have been some efforts to 'specialize' sets of them, to be more effective against different targets (humans versus animals versus spirits- or that have a 'stunning' effect on the target rather than being made to pierce it). Those effects are magical, and while uncommon, do exist. Carrying a shortsword or rapier is also standard, and soldiers are expected to be reasonably competent with it. There have been some efforts to enhance the effectiveness of guns themselves with magical attachments- things to improve aim, mostly, or to extend their range- and while they work, they're also bulky and prone to failure, so they have seen little adoption. The uniforms are largely formal, elegant, and even the day-to-day sets might be mistaken for something ceremonial. The higher your rank, the more feathers you get... they love feathered hats. This is not a military that has seen much in the way of actual combat, so many of their designs have been made by people not involved in the military at all... Cavalry units exist, and are probably the strongest category Karteria can wield. Some early prototypes of tanks had been under development, back when cars were still being built- but those efforts quickly fell to the wayside as well, lacking the materials to spare on them. So horses remain the standard. (They too are decorated.) Despite there being plenty of literature and tales of a war that took place about a quarter century ago between Lupê (a neighboring isle) and Karteria, where they created weaponry built on Katalyth that backfired, these particular weapons will not be available to Takasugi's repertoire whatsoever. There will be none of Lupê's technology, no massive Katalyth-infused weapons of mass destruction, no knowledge of how they're made or operated. There also will be no military knowledge or usability of Augmented Ones in combat, even though Augmented Ones were Karteria's answer to subduing this disaster. |
