Piggybacking on this but has the accessibility gotten better/more advanced after the event that blinded a bunch of Karterians? (There was one, right? Or did I make the up in my head...) | There was indeed a mass blinding event, taking place on the summer solstice, last June. A quarter of the Karterian population was permanently blinded, with the Augmented suffering more temporary eye-related mutations and injury. The aftermath has led to attempts from the government (pushed by pre-existing advocacy groups- as it's not as though the blind did not exist in Karteria before) to improve accessibility and safety. There was also a Velvet Claw task summarized here, which requests help from the Augmented for ideas on how to improve things for its citizens. In short: it's a work in progress, but it's far better than it was before with expanded options for getting around the city, housing with features for the blind... but some of the lower class districts (such as East Sophia, parts of Gloria) continue on with fewer accessibility options. More private establishments as well reflect the increased blind population, and many have tried to make accommodations. Karterians as a whole are much more aware of the needs of the blind, given that almost everyone knows someone who was affected, even if they weren't struck themselves. |
